Help! I need a 1500 point list!

Hi all,

Just a brief call for help here.  I'm thinking of joining a league for this season, starting in a week or two.  It's 1500 points 'golden standard', so we have to play at least that point value and can play above it if both players agree.

Uncle Paddy Needs You!

I want to build a good, balanced, all-comers 1500 point 'Nids list, and I need input!  Please!

Doesn't look like there are any comp rules, but your opponent can award you 3 points for sportsmanship per game, and one point is 'is it a fair list', one point is 'would you play this person again'.

HELP!

Bonus round:

We don't have to take the same army each week, or even the same codex!  So while I might not play it, I'm trying to build a 1500 point Blood Angels list with no mech except for dreads.  Go!

  1. For Nids at 1500, I like the Fexstar, so I might try ... (without points because I am not near the codex)

Tyranid Prime (lash Whip Bone Sword)
    Parasite

    2x Hive Guard
    2x Hive Guard

    10 Termagaunts
1 Tervigon Toxic sacs, cluster spines, catalyst

    20 gargoyles
    Harpy w/ venom cannons
    Harpy w/ Venom Cannons

    Carnifex
    Carnifex

I don't think this is "it" but I think it could be a good start (pretty sure it weighs in around 1500). You basically have a set of tank stunners in the harpys, who later can close with and lay down some templates with their spores and cluster spines. I would run the parasite with the gargoyles and use them as a countercharge unit or a back field harrassment unit to take out things like long fangs, scouts, ect. If the parasite spawns rippers, then they can block movement, provide cover save ect.
Tervi is there to breed objective grabbers and give the fex star FNP
Hive guard are obviously the anti-tank.
The Prime connects with the fexes to be the big CC unit everyone hates.

There are a lot of units here to distract the enemy and all have some teeth. I am not always sold on the fex star, so if you were to drop the prime and fexes and maybe pick up some trygons, then you would have a very fast list capable of dealing with just about anything.

Like I said, it's a start and I hope it helps to give you some direction.

  2. Erm,

Tyrant - devourers, old adversary & wings

    2 x Hive Guard

    2 x Hive Guard

    10 x Termagants

    10 x Termagants

Tervigon - adrenal glands & catalyst

Tervigon - adrenal glands & catalyst

    20 x Gargoyles - toxin sacs

    Trygon - adrenal glands

    Trygon - adrenal glands

Maybe a Trygon or a Trygon Prime if you can ;)

  3. Mercer, I like the way you're thinking... I wasn't even thinking of putting a Tyrant in at 1500 points, but that looks pretty viable and delicious.

OST, I own one 'fex, and it's getting turned into a Terv :p I also don't have harpies and don't have time to convert them up in the next couple of weeks, ditto parasite. I absolutely LOVE that you're suggesting the Parasite and 'Fexes, though, I love mixing it up!

Realistically though, this starts in a couple weeks and it's WYSIWYG, so I have to pretty much go by what I can assemble and have between now and then.

So here's what I've thrown together, and I'd love some input. I'm not crazy about this list, it doesn't feel 'right' to me, but I'd be willing to test it out...

    Prime w/ BS/LW

    2 Hive Guard

    2 Hive Guard

    Terv w/ Adren, Toxin, Catalyst

    10 Termagants

    8 Stealers w Toxins, Broodlord

    8 Stealers w Toxins, Broodlord

20 Gargoyles w Adren (or toxin, haven't decided)

    Trygon w/ Adren

    Trygon w/ Adren

So here's my thinking: Prime can go with Hive guard or even maybe Termagants. Trygons do their thing, Genestealers outflank, Gargoyles pick a flank and race up.

Terv moves up along with gants and hive guard.

    Problems:

    - Gargoyles are going to go right out of synapse unless I keep them back and try to leapfrog units/cover. Having said that, they can happily chill out behind the gants and get cover, then make an assault/shoot

    - AV14's going to ruin my picnic, since the Trygons would need to catch up to it, pop it, and then not get killed by whatever it's carrying

    - Genestealers outflanking is great, but not without Swarmy or a Hive Commander tyrant to make them more dependable.

    - This list is neither 'scuttling tide' nor 'super-fast strike' Tyranids. I'd get to the opposing army piecemeal, and I can't deny them 1-2 rounds of shooting.

    - I'm short on synapse. I'd love Zoeys, but I still don't know how I'm going to make a spore... does anyone think I can get away with walking them up behind the swarm?

  4. Gargoyles would be a waste of time because of synapse as you said.

Trygons with adrenal would have to do av14 or just hope your Hive Guard can glance and immobilise so the Trygons auto hit.

I wouldn't worry about the +1 reserve bonus, really.
